Abstract:Kac-Moody algebras were introduced by V. G. Kac and R. Moody, independently, in the 1960s as an infinite-dimensional generalization of finite-dimensional complex semimiple Lie algebras. These Lie algebras have rich mathematical structure and several applications in number theory, combinatorics, geometry, and theoretical physics, to name a few. Kac-Moody groups are abstract groups associated to these Lie algebras. In this seminar, we will give an overview of these groups, state their applications of our interest, and talk about the generalizations we are aiming to look for.
