Going beyond Buneman's split equivalence theorem

Abstract:The Split Equivalence Theorem, proved by Peter Buneman in 1971, claims that two phylogenetic trees are isomorphic if and only if they generate the same split system. Surely, here a most natural way of associating a split system with a tree is used. There are many other natural ways of assigning a split system to a phylogenetic tree. Henceforth, one may seek for possible counterparts of Buneman's Theorem in different directions. We will report some of our progress on this topic. This is joint work with Chengyang Qian and Min Xie.
